Dr. Roto’s Daily Prescription 8/1: Mims the Word

With injuries hitting the Broncos’ receiving corps, Dr. Roto looks at which receivers will step up for Denver.

The Denver Broncos received two pieces of horrible news on Monday. Firstly, WR Tim Patrick tore his Achilles in practice and will miss the entire season. Secondly, KJ Hamler was waived with a pectoral issue, but the team is interested in bringing him back once ruled healthy. This leaves the Broncos with Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton and a bunch of questions.
When the Broncos selected rookie WR Marvin Mims from Oklahoma in the second-round of this year’s draft, people weren’t sure if he was going to see the field anytime soon. Now with the injuries to Patrick and Hamler, Mims becomes the WR3 with a chance to shine in Sean Payton’s offense. Mims is a serious downfield threat as witnessed by his 54 catches for over 1,000 yards in college. If Russell Wilson revives the passing attack, Mims could be a sneaky beneficiary. He was going in the 15th-16th rounds prior to the news on Patrick, but I can easily see him going in Round 11-12 by the time people are drafting late August.
Also, keep a close eye on Marquez Callaway. Callaway was signed in the off-season to provide depth, but we have seen him be successful in New Orleans and I think he could slot in for about 25-30 catches in Denver if given the opportunity.
