Dynasty Football Corner: Week 13

Fantasy Clown is back with more dynasty football talk!

You made it to week 13, which gives us those 16 games for the Thanksgiving week.  The final playoff pushes are being made, and regardless if you’re a playoff team or a retooling team, it’s time to really make sure you plan your bench and complete your roster to get to money as quickly as possible.  If you are on your way to the playoffs, having depth at each position is recommended.  You want to be next man up.  I found myself last week with the Purdy injury elevating Nix from my practice squad to enter my starting lineup, and I was like, “I think I’m in a better position than the 49ers.”

I believe in “QB All In” withholding handcuffs as it is the position scoring the most points, and not having backups seems very sloppy. However, this is only a way to play in multiple QB starting lineup leagues.  Lots of teams now play in either a 2QB or Superflex, and with that, using bench spots on these limited high-scoring players is very prudent.  In your Superflex leagues, if you are heading to the playoffs, make sure you have lots of starting-level QBs or handcuffs to your starting QBs, whichever you can pick off the waiver wire.  I tend to sell QBs; however never want to buy them as they are usually more expensive than I pay.  The great thing about dynasty is that if this year didn’t go well for you, there is no need to panic; you can merely build for next year.  If you are building for next year, pick up any rookies that have been cut loose and that you feel might have a role next year.

Players like Damien Pierce or Erik Al would be targets of mine, but more than it’s time to take a gamble on young players.  Do you like Mingo?  If you’re in a multi-QB league, take a peek at Bagent.  These bench stashes can give you a head start on your opponents.  The final thing you can do to separate yourself is study the playoff teams and watch the roster moves they make.  Do they favor one position when they pick up players?  Do they pay more for one position over another?  Do they get overly emotional when a star player on their team gets injured?  This information gathering is crucial to your roster build.  Write down the observations so that when we talk about your league in the offseason, you will gain an edge next year, which will take you to the top.

Good Luck in week 13.  Happy Thanksgiving.
