Lou breaks down his favorite landing spots for free agent WR Hunter Renfrow.

Just a couple of years ago, Renfrow was one of the best slot receivers in the NFL. He was an elite route runner with excellent instincts and football IQ, and it led to him getting open and being a receptions monster. It also made him a fantasy football darling in PPR formats; however, in 2023, when the Raiders made a coaching change and moved on from Derek Carr, things went downhill fast for Renfrow. Now, we are in June of 2024, and the former star WR finds himself without a job. There are some teams out there that would be a very nice fit for him, so let’s examine who and why.

Kansas City Chiefs:

The Chiefs are already one of the best offenses in the NFL. They have a future HOF QB in Patrick Mahomes, an excellent TE in Travis Kelce, and a great RB in Isaiah Pacheco. Their WR corps has been a question mark over the past few years, though, and is again this season. Rashee Rice will serve a suspension, and who knows for how long? The rookie Xavier Worthy should make an impact, but because he’s a rookie, there is still a lot of unknown. They signed Hollywood Brown, who is a veteran with a solid track record, but it’s possible that he had lost a step or two.

The Chiefs would benefit greatly from adding a player like Renfrow, who can not only help tutor the younger WRs on this team but also be a very dangerous pass catcher once again because he will be paired up with Mahomes. Furthermore, he can Kelce working the middle of the field would present matchup nightmares for opposing defenses. Renfrow to the Chiefs is something I would like to see.

New Orleans Saints:

This option is pretty simple. It’s not so much that the Saints need a guy like Renfrow as much as the fact that their QB is Derek Carr. The thought of Renfrow teaming back up with Carr whom he had his most success with, is an interesting one. It could help Renfrow get back on track, and it could help Carr have another passing game weapon that he is familiar with.

If Carr is better with Renfrow and Renfrow is productive again because of Carr, then the Saints will be better for it. Perhaps the Saints will think this way and reunite these two.

Los Angeles Chargers:

The Chargers are not going to be very good on offense this season. They lost Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, and their new coaching staff is all about the run. They don’t have much pass-catching talent around WB Justin Herbert, and their WR depth is limited. They need another weapon for Justin Herbert, and Renfrow could certainly be that guy.

Adding a veteran to a young receiving corps is never a bad idea, and adding an excellent route runner to their offense seems like something that would benefit both the Chargers and their young QB. Not only could Renfrow bounce back, but he could also help Quentin Johnson and Joshua Palmer become better players.
