This is going to be short and sweet. We are now entering the middle of August. The MLB trade deadline passed a couple of weeks ago, many of your leagues have also halted trades, or soon will at the end of the month, and the NFL preseason is entering its second week. And most of us had already had at least one NFL fantasy draft. Let’s face it: it’s football season.

That said, this information could be vital for the few of you who are still on the hunt for a fantasy baseball championship. I call them as I see them; if there were four or five pitchers to alert you to, I would. But this week, I can only have you consider one pitcher.

He’s made only one start this season. Coming off of Tommy John surgery, Texas Rangers starter Tyler Mahle made his season debut on August 7th. He is scheduled to make two starts next week, pitching on Monday against Boston and at the end of the week against the Twins.

The Red Sox are under .500 at home, but they still hit the ball well at Fenway, so this could be a tough matchup for Mahle. However, he truly is the only pitcher with very low ownership worth getting a look at.

In his lone start, he pitched five innings, only giving up five hits and a walk. He only gave up one earned run and struck out a couple of batters. His two starts should produce at least 10 innings with solid ratios and a handful of Ks, and he may even get you a win. And sometimes a win can be the difference between a title and finishing out of the money.
