Several notable storylines heading into award announcement
There are plenty of intriguing races among this year’s National League finalists. The shortstop category is particularly interesting, with Abrams and De La Cruz both earning nominations after putting together productive seasons. Otto Lopez joins them after leading the National League in hits, giving voters three different offensive profiles to consider.
The designated hitter competition also features two major stars. Schwarber is coming off a season in which he tied for the National League lead with 45 home runs, while Ohtani remains one of baseball’s most dangerous offensive players despite an injury-affected campaign.
Bauers could make history with his two nominations. The Brewers slugger is a finalist at first base and utility, giving him two opportunities to win an award. Only one player has previously won two Silver Slugger Awards in the same season: J.D. Martinez in 2018.
The Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers and Washington Nationals are also finalists for the National League Team Silver Slugger Award.
The winners will be revealed on November 17, with several players having an opportunity to add significant individual recognition to their 2026 accomplishments.
