The Los Angeles Rams’ disappointing 2-4 start to the 2026 NFL season just became even more concerning. Following Sunday’s 18-16 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, head coach Sean McVay revealed Monday that star wide receiver Davante Adams suffered a ruptured hamstring and is expected to miss six to 10 weeks.
The injury comes at a particularly difficult time for a Rams team that entered the season with legitimate expectations and now finds itself three games behind the NFC West-leading San Francisco 49ers.
Davante Adams injury is a massive blow
Adams suffered the injury on a non-contact play late in Sunday’s loss to Arizona. He pulled up while running a route and immediately grabbed at his leg before leaving the field. The Rams had only one more offensive play after Adams exited.
The veteran receiver had been one of the most productive players on Los Angeles’ offense through six games. Adams has recorded 30 receptions for 480 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 16.0 yards per reception.
His best performance came in Week 2 against the New York Giants, when he exploded for eight catches, 195 yards and two touchdowns. He also scored twice against the Buffalo Bills in Week 5.
Losing that type of production for potentially two months puts even more pressure on Puka Nacua and quarterback Matthew Stafford. Nacua had six catches for 80 yards against Arizona, including three receptions for 62 yards on the Rams’ final drive, but the offense now has significantly less depth around him.
Rams are dealing with multiple major injuries
Unfortunately for Los Angeles, Adams is not the only major injury coming out of Sunday’s loss.
Defensive tackle Poona Ford is out for the season after suffering a ruptured triceps, while kicker Blake Grupe is also done for the year after tearing a knee ligament. Defensive tackle Kobie Turner is headed to injured reserve with a groin injury and is expected to miss four to six weeks.
That creates problems on both sides of the football for a Rams team that desperately needs to turn its season around.
The timing of Adams’ injury is especially brutal because Los Angeles is already sitting at 2-4 after consecutive losses to the Bills and Cardinals. The Rams also have several other players who have dealt with injuries throughout the season, making the depth chart increasingly thin.
Now the Rams face a major decision before the trade deadline. With Adams potentially sidelined until late November or December, Los Angeles could explore adding another veteran receiver to help Stafford and Nacua carry the passing game.
A six-to-10-week absence could potentially keep Adams out for most of the remaining regular season, making this one of the biggest setbacks yet for a Rams team that entered 2026 with far greater expectations.
