The Green Bay Packers have received another discouraging update on Micah Parsons as they prepare for a highly anticipated Week 6 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Green Bay is not anticipating Parsons will return to practice this week, making his return against his former team increasingly unlikely.
Parsons unlikely to make return against Cowboys
Parsons had been targeting the Week 6 matchup with Dallas as a possible return date, which would have created one of the biggest storylines of the NFL season. The star pass rusher has yet to play this season while recovering from the knee injury that ended his 2025 campaign.
However, Schefter reports that the Packers do not expect Parsons to practice this week. There is still hope that he can return at some point in October, but Green Bay does not currently have a firm timetable for when he will be ready.
That is particularly significant because Parsons would need time to ramp up before returning to game action. Green Bay has not yet opened his 21-day practice window, meaning the team cannot simply activate him for Sunday night’s game without first getting him back on the practice field.
Parsons underwent surgery after suffering a torn ACL and meniscus damage last December. He explained earlier this year that the meniscus repair made his rehabilitation different from a standard ACL recovery, which contributed to the cautious approach.
Packers continue to wait for defensive star
The latest update is a major disappointment for Green Bay, particularly with the Cowboys matchup carrying extra significance for Parsons. The Packers acquired him from Dallas in a blockbuster trade, and his first game against his former team was expected to be one of the most anticipated moments of Week 6.
Parsons previously called a Week 6 return against Dallas “very realistic,” although he also acknowledged that the target was not guaranteed.
Now, that possibility appears to be fading.
The good news for Green Bay is that there has been no reported setback with Parsons’ recovery. The Packers are simply continuing to take a cautious approach with their star defender.
Green Bay enters Week 6 at 3-2 after consecutive victories, but the defense has also taken additional injury hits. Parsons’ eventual return would provide a significant boost to a unit that could use his ability to pressure opposing quarterbacks.
For now, though, the Packers will have to prepare for Dallas without their biggest defensive addition. If Parsons does not begin practicing this week, his highly anticipated return against the Cowboys appears increasingly unlikely.
