The Philadelphia Eagles have a growing concern surrounding DeVonta Smith heading into Week 4. The star wide receiver has now missed back-to-back practices with a hamstring injury, putting his availability for Sunday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Rams increasingly in question.

Smith was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday’s estimated injury report and remained sidelined Thursday. The Eagles are already dealing with several injuries on offense, making Smith’s status particularly important as Philadelphia prepares for a major NFC matchup.
Smith’s hamstring remains a concern
The latest development is notable because Smith dealt with this same hamstring issue last week before eventually playing against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. He missed practice Thursday last week, returned in a limited capacity Friday, and then practiced fully on Saturday before suiting up.
This week, however, the Eagles are on a normal Sunday schedule, and Smith has yet to get on the field through the first two practices.
That makes Friday’s practice particularly important. Philadelphia will have one more opportunity to get Smith on the field before determining his status for Sunday’s game.
Smith has been one of Jalen Hurts’ most important targets this season. Through three games, he has recorded 19 receptions for 235 yards and one touchdown, according to the latest available statistics.
Eagles need Smith back on the field
The situation is especially serious because Philadelphia no longer has A.J. Brown, who was traded to the New England Patriots during the offseason. That leaves Smith as the team’s primary established receiving option.
If Smith cannot play, the Eagles would have to lean more heavily on players such as Dontayvion Wicks, Makai Lemon, Darius Cooper, and Elijah Moore at wide receiver.
Philadelphia is also dealing with injuries to Dallas Goedert, Hollywood Brown and Fred Johnson, further complicating the team’s offensive personnel situation. Goedert and Brown were among the players who did not practice Thursday alongside Smith.
There is still time for Smith to turn things around. His ability to participate Friday — and potentially Saturday — will provide a much clearer indication of whether he can play against Los Angeles.
For now, though, two consecutive missed practices with a hamstring injury is certainly not the update Eagles fans wanted heading into the weekend.
