Football fans just got their best look yet at one of the most anticipated sports movies of 2026. Amazon MGM Studios released the full trailer for Madden on Thursday, giving fans an extended look at Nicolas Cage portraying legendary NFL coach, broadcaster, and video game icon John Madden.
The trailer has already generated plenty of buzz, particularly because of the star-studded cast and the larger-than-life story being brought to the big screen.
Nicolas Cage stars as John Madden
Cage takes on the role of Madden, with Christian Bale portraying Raiders owner Al Davis. The cast also includes Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden, Sienna Miller as Carol Davis, John Mulaney as EA Sports founder Trip Hawkins, and Shane Gillis.
The movie follows Madden’s journey from his successful run as head coach of the Raiders to his transition into broadcasting and eventual involvement in the creation of the Madden NFL video game franchise.
That gives the film several major chapters of Madden’s life to explore. Madden coached the Raiders from 1969 through 1978, leading the franchise to its first Super Bowl championship before becoming one of the most recognizable voices in NFL broadcasting. He later partnered with EA Sports as the company developed the football video game that would carry his name.
‘Madden’ is coming just in time for Thanksgiving
The film is directed by David O. Russell, who also co-wrote the screenplay. The new trailer offers a much more extensive look at the movie than earlier teasers, showing Cage’s transformation into Madden and Bale’s portrayal of Davis.
Madden will receive a limited theatrical release beginning November 11, before arriving globally on Prime Video on November 18.
For NFL fans who grew up playing Madden NFL, the movie has an obvious built-in appeal. It tells the story of how one of football’s most recognizable personalities went from coaching on the sidelines to becoming the name attached to one of the most successful sports video game franchises ever created.
The full trailer certainly gives the movie a much bigger feel than the initial teaser, and football fans won’t have to wait much longer to see the full story.
