Week 2 of the college football season brings a loaded slate, with several marquee matchups providing plenty of opportunities for bold predictions. After getting a first look at these teams in Week 1, it’s time to make some calls that could shape the national picture moving forward.
Ohio State vs. Texas
1. Devin McCuin Over 65+ Receiving Yards and a Touchdown
Devin McCuin seemed to establish himself as a go-to guy for Julian Sayin despite their limited time playing together. McCuin comes into Ohio State with college experience and is placed in the best position for a receiver in all of college football: behind Jeremiah Smith. Smith will continue to tear up college football, which will continue to open opportunities for his teammates. This is a recipe for success, as Texas is facing its first real team after losing so much in the back end of its defense from last year.
2. Cam Coleman 75+ Receiving Yards and a Touchdown
Ohio State vs. Texas is full of star power on both sides of the ball, but I expect it to be a shootout. Texas will need to put up points in order to win, and I believe Cam Coleman will be a major contributor to that. I expect Texas to be in it for a really close game. Arch Manning also looked really solid in Week 1 against an inferior opponent, but seemed less jumpy in the pocket than in previous years. I expect Texas to try to throw the ball against an Ohio State secondary, as that will be their best chance to win.
Oklahoma vs. Michigan
1. Bryce Underwood Over 40+ Rushing Yards
This game is not going to be pretty for anyone to watch. Both teams’ strengths lie in their defenses, and they both have quarterbacks with the ability to take off and put their heads down. Michigan’s best weapon on offense is Bryce Underwood’s legs. I expect them to take full advantage of his ability to run the ball. Against an elite Oklahoma defense, he is not trusted to pass the ball.
2. John Mateer Under 220 Passing Yards
Oklahoma should control this game from start to finish. They are playing a team that is similarly structured, but Oklahoma is just far superior. Mateer will not have to throw the ball much. I expect him to hand the ball off and wait for Michigan to make mistakes instead of trying to do it on his own. If Oklahoma is smart, they will force Michigan to win the game by winning the possession battle and chewing up the clock.
Iowa State vs. Iowa
1. Kamari Moulton Over 125 Rushing Yards
A very fun rivalry from the Midwest seems to be completely lopsided this year. The Hawkeyes are coming in with one of the best run games and defenses in all of college football. This game seems to have a very specific feel to it: Iowa getting stops and running the ball until they chip away at a worse Iowa State team.
