The Dallas Cowboys have made another major addition to their defense, and it’s already creating plenty of excitement around the franchise. Dallas officially agreed to terms with Von Miller, bringing the NFL’s active sack leader back to his home state for his 15th NFL season.
At 37 years old, Miller obviously isn’t the same player who dominated the NFL during the prime of his career. But his arrival gives the Cowboys another experienced pass rusher, and considering what Dallas has done to rebuild its defense, it’s easy to understand why some fans are suddenly thinking much bigger.
Cowboys Are Loading Up On Defense
Miller brings an incredible résumé to Dallas. The eight-time Pro Bowler enters the 2026 season with 138.5 career sacks, the most among active NFL players and tied for ninth-most in league history.
Even more encouraging for Dallas is what Miller accomplished last season with the Washington Commanders. Despite being used in a rotational role, he recorded nine sacks, his highest total since 2021.
He now joins a Cowboys defense that already features some significant additions.
Dallas recently acquired Rashan Gary, while Quinnen Williams received a massive three-year, $105.9 million contract extension. The Cowboys also added first-round pick Malachi Lawrence to the defensive front.
Suddenly, the Cowboys have legitimate veteran experience, star power and young talent across their defensive front.
Is Super Bowl Fever Getting Out Of Control?
That’s the big question.
The Cowboys haven’t made the playoffs in two consecutive seasons, so nobody should be handing them the Lombardi Trophy simply because Miller is joining the roster.
However, the defense looks dramatically different from the unit that struggled in 2025. Dallas finished tied for 22nd in the NFL with 35 sacks last season, and the Cowboys are clearly attempting to fix that problem.
Miller doesn’t need to be the superstar he once was. If he can provide timely pressure, contribute in a rotational role and bring his championship experience to a young defense, this could prove to be a very important addition.
And in Dallas, where expectations are always enormous, adding the NFL’s active sack leader is more than enough to get fans dreaming about February.
