Week 1 is behind us, and it’s time to quickly recap what happened; however, we also look forward to Week 2. The urgency of redraft leagues assists in keeping the dynasty urgency alive. In redraft 5-1 on teams, I set lineups and 4-1 in best ball with roster moves and trades. I’m very pleased with 9-2 overall for redraft record in week 1. Now, let’s take a look at the 3 teams we are looking at weekly.
Danger Family
This league has median scoring, so it rewards good teams. I’m beginning 2-0, finishing 2nd in scoring for the week. I really had no lineup decisions last week, as I drafted a team where I knew who I wanted to start. Prior to the season, I added Chestnut as a speculative add, feeling like I needed to be strong at RB. Spears is on the shelf, and Chestnut only got 11% snap share and really didn’t look exceptional, so he’s the guy I will eliminate with my one waiver claim this week. The theme is getting ahead on RBs, so I picked up Lequint Allen as he was cheap, and during camp, he balled out, so would it be a shock that he gets some run now that Bigsby is gone 1 carry for 7 yards and 1 target became 1 catch. Since I’m streaming my TE’s, I did add Theo Johnson as this is more matchup and team related. He did get 78% of the snaps last week, and the Giants will look to get Russ some high percentage throws. Dallas also struggles vs the TE, or more Eberflus defenses allow for middle of the field production. The other move I made was to shed another WR from my roster, as I still have 2 and start 3, so picking up Gainwell, who had the most snaps in Pittsburgh last week with 54%. Typically, Arthur Smith seems to like backup players, and Aaron not only doesn’t enjoy playing with rookies, but more importantly, he likes pass pro and getting to the right blocks, which is Gainwell’s strength. I start 4 RBs and have Henderson on the bench, which I have high hopes for, so now I’m searching for some more in case of injury. Ford is going the wrong way on this team, so I need to keep looking for studs. This week I face a 0-2 team, but a great team that will be a test.
TFFL 2
This is a team with 10 QBs, and unfortunately, it lost by less than a point. People may point to a bad process, but really, this was more variance as I started the guys I was going to start. I waited till late in the week to drop Rodriguez, not knowing he would be ruled out to pick up Kmet and start him. It’s crazy, but this team is built for the playoffs, and I continue to pluck QBs and create a shortage. I was able to drop Damien Pierce and pick up Mac Jones as a speculative add. Vegas has changed the point spread to reflect Jones playing, so this also could change, but what signaled me to make the pickup. I did score the 6th most points in this league, so my starters are producing enough to win some games with all teams playing. I face a tough opponent this week, also trying to rebound from an 0-1 start.
Clown Head Redraft I
This team got a week 1 win; however, it didn’t score in the top half of points, so it falls under the category of it’s better to be lucky than good. Since in this league we start 2 QBs, I put a 1% claim on Mac Jones to at least set a scenario that when someone needs to buy a QB, they need to empty their FAAB account. I dropped Iosivas, which I knew I wouldn’t use this week, as I still have an extra WR in case my guys don’t all play. In this league, I only start 4 WR a week and have an abundance of RBs, so rather than pick up a marginal guy if something were to happen to CeeDee or someone top-end on my roster, I would use an RB to go get a top 20 WR. To activate Kirk today, I cut ties with Brisset, who was only on the team as Kyler had an illness last week. It’s time for week 2, and I play a team that also began 1-0, so we need to keep putting up points.
