Fantasy Baseball Week 12: Two-Start Pitchers (Joey Estes, Colin Rea)

Cam offers a couple two-start pitchers that you should be looking to add ahead of Fantasy Baseball Week 12.

Monday’s are often the relegated day off for MLB teams, which means fewer games and fewer chances for two-start pitchers. This is especially true this Monday when only seven games are on the docket.

Although some pitchers get two starts when their first start is on Tuesday, I hate to depend on it. A rainout throws a monkey wrench into that plan, so my focus is always on Monday starters. And as you know, I gravitate to pitchers with under 50% ownership because it makes no sense to tout or tell people they should start someone like Corbin Burnes.

With that said, this week presents a scarcity of MLB pitchers. Out of the potential 14 starters, only two are likely to be available to you, emphasizing the need to act swiftly.

THE CUBBARDS ARE BARE

Joey Estes, Oakland A’s

The 22-year-old righty has made five starts this season. Despite the A’s team’s mediocrity, Estes shines as one of the few bright spots. With a 2-1 record and 25 Ks in 27 innings, his performance is promising. Although his ERA is slightly high at 4.67, his sub-one WHIP (0.96) is a positive sign. He’ll make two road starts this week, against the Padres and Twins, offering potential for a strong performance.

Colin Rea, Milwaukee Brewers

I’ve had Rea on this list every other week. The way the Brewers have their rotation set up, Rea’s starts have been falling quite a bit on Mondays. This is a double-edged sword; he’s getting two starts quite often, but he’s not performing well enough for his ownership to be higher. This doesn’t make sense because his numbers haven’t been that bad. In 10 starts, he’s 4-2 with a solid 3.53 ERA. His WHIP is a tad high at 1.35, but he’s certainly pitched well enough to keep the Brewers in games. And he’s pitched well enough to be on more fantasy rosters…but with that said, snag him if he’s available.
